Thanksgiving has always been a time for my family to gather and enjoy each other's company. This Thanksgiving was no different. The festivities began on Wednesday with my grandmother beginning to cook, and they continued unto Wednesday with the endless buffet of turkey, dressing, and cabbage. Of course, I also consumed more than my fair share of dessert. This time of year particularly kicks off the holidays to me. It reminds me that school is almost out for the year, sweet potato pie season is in full swing, and Christmas is now right around the corner. There is the story of Thanksgiving and a story of why we observe the holiday as Americans, I rarely think about that. However, what I do think about is the time to be with family. That is what this holiday is all about. Spending time with family and remembering where I come from. While I am thankful for so much, what I think about is how this day is a reset for me. This reset is the time I take to let others know that I care about them and am grateful to have them in my life. I don't think about Thanksgiving as a national holiday. To me, it is just family appreciation day.
