Oct 13 2019

The good times sure did roar this year at the 2019 University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and everyone from students to alumni had the time of their lives as they descended upon Pine Bluff for the annual celebration. This time of year is special for golden lions as we celebrate being golden lions and participate in the many events held for alumni and students to showcase not only HBCU culture, but UAPB culture. One event that was special for all Golden Lions was the National Pan Hellenic Council Greek show which showcased the different Greek organizations on campus. This show was special because the showcase did not happen the previous year. Hosted by DJ Envy, every active organization on campus showcased their unique talents for the University.

The competition was tight, as many organizations had elaborate sets and stylish outfits. But in the end the Alpha Rho chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated took the grand prize of one thousand dollars. Those who competed put in hours of preparation and paid close attention to detail to try and win the top spot. One participant, Vincint Abraham of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., said the planning of the event was long and tedious but it was satisfying to see it all come together. Other organizations shared the same sentiment. Jasmine Thomas of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., as her first Greek show since joining her sorority, she said it was nerve wrecking to perform in front of so many people, but it added to her homecoming experience.

The step show was enjoyed by many and was a time for Greek organizations to congregate and the school to gain an appreciation for the art of stepping. For sophomores, it was our first step show. It was worth they hype, and I am looking forward to more shows in the future.
